Get clear on the problem, then build.

I bring 15+ years in product and technology here to learn out loud. CMM Labs is where I work a problem, show my thinking and build something to solve it. Sometimes that’s a writeup — lab-style; sometimes a working tool.

I’m primarily seeking a full-time role where I can put my product experience and growing AI fluency to work with a team. I take on select contract, contract-to-hire and advisory gigs, too. I bring my combination of product judgment, hands-on AI practice and curiosity to the work.

If you’re trying to untangle a product problem, figure out where AI could genuinely help or test an idea before committing to a build, I’d love to work through it with you.

About

Mandy Miller

Amanda on paper. Mandy to everyone else.

For many years, my job as a product manager has been to describe what should be built. I’ve run discovery sessions, owned roadmaps, led launches and shipped things that mattered to people. The prototyping and building were someone else’s part. Then AI handed me the keys, and I haven’t put them down.

Early on, I was asking an LLM to write product requirements. They were impressively useless. More than a year later, I’m researching, prototyping and building as a daily practice, and the requirements are better for it. Being able to show — not just tell — the nuance of a concept helps me and my teams spot a bad idea before spending time and money on it.

What I build typically starts with something that annoys or confuses me in my own life. I dig into the problem, research the space, work out what might help and build a prototype. Sometimes that all happens over a weekend because once I’m asking “what if?” I can’t stop until I have something to try. Then I do the part I’ve always loved. Find out whether it’s genuinely useful by putting it to use. Making something is satisfying. Finding out it matters is best.

I’m still a beginner at building and UX design, with a solid understanding of the fundamentals and real respect for the craft of both. I do this work to be a better product manager. Building gets me closer to the work; my years of experience and judgment help me ask better questions, evaluate what happens and contribute more to the team. This site is where I share that practice, including the awkward parts where things didn’t work out.

Product is my first love. Building is an extension of it — and always loops back to “what if?”
